GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare, Ltd.

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is committed to supporting charities that address health related issues such as helping disadvantaged women and children with HIV/AIDS and cancer.

CAF India helped GSK set up a Company Account to support several charitable projects. One of these is The Caterpillar and The Butterfly project being run by the Bangalore based charity, Dream A Dream.

This project aims to empower and integrate vulnerable children into the community. It helps children to understand that transition is an integral part of life. It uses dance and movement therapy to help youngsters expend energy and express emotions such as anger, happiness and frustration.

The GSK girls at DeepalyaDeepalya is another charity that has received support from the GSK Company Account. GSK supports 35 girl children in the age group of 6-14 years who come from families with a history of drug abuse. These young children reside in the Deepalya Transit Home in Gusbethi, Haryana. The project supports the overall development of these girls, which includes education, vocational training, health care, recreation and counselling.

Five of these children have been repatriated with their families.


British Airways

With support from British Airways, the Shikshana programme being run by the Sivasri Trust has been able to carry forward its mission of enhancing the quality of public education in the country.

At present Shikshana has adopted 28 schools with about 8500 children. Programme interventions cover a wide range of activities such as providing additional classrooms, improving the student-teacher ratio and supplying teaching aids and notebooks. Support from British Airways has enabled Shikshana to improve school buildings and hire additional teachers.


Adobe

Children at the Adobe Supported Computer Learning CentrePart of Adobe's corporate social mission is to help underprivileged children receive an education that will prepare them for future careers. Through a CAF India Company account, Adobe has been providing generous support to charities such as Sai Kripa, the Hope Project Charitable Trust and Jan Madhyam, which work in the area of functional education and literacy.

With support from Adobe, Sai Kripa has been able to take forward its plans of introducing a computer-training course in its school, Sai Shiksha Sansthan. Computer training is now a part of the school curriculum for children aged 14 years and above with an interest and aptitude in this area.

Adobe supports the Hope Project Charitable Trust, which runs a computer learning centre at the Nizamuddin Basti in New Delhi. This project benefits 260 children. Children receive computer and language skills training. They also receive career counselling and help with job placements. Ten beneficiaries have already been placed with various companies.

A trainer instructs children at the Jan Madhyam CentreJan Madhyam, a charity that provides education and training to differently-abled and marginalized children also received project support from Adobe. Through this project Jan Madhyam reached out to 215 children with disabilities in the age group of 4 to 18 years. An Individualised Education Programme (IPE), which includes computer training, vocational skills, physiotherapy and counselling, is developed for each child.


The Incentive Foundation

The Incentive Foundation has set up a Company Account with CAF India to fund a free health clinic for the residents of Bandhwari village, located on the outskirts of Gurgaon.

This project is being run by Sukarya and will continue till January 2009. Under this project a qualified doctor visits the village for six hours daily. Several health education and counselling sessions are also provided. Special attention is paid to women and children.
