Charities Aid Foundation India (CAF India) is a not-for-profit organisation committed to effective giving locally and
internationally. Registered as a public charitable trust and part of the CAF international network, CAF India set up operations in New Delhi in October 1998.
CAF India's mission has been to increase the flow of resources from corporations and high net worth individuals to the not-for-profit sector. In India we provide giving solutions to individuals and companies through a range of options from
Give As You Earn and
Company Accounts to Donor Advised Funds and Cause Related marketing.
CAF India works at two levels. On the one hand we seek to sensitise companies and donors to help them identify causes and charities they feel connected with. On the other hand, we make grants to our NGO partners.
Having worked with over 3,500 donors in the last year itself we have learnt to help NGOs and donors grow with each other. Our main objective is to help donors identify and support NGOs that work on issues close to their heart. Our donors - big or small, companies or individuals - trust us with both their causes and their money.
CAF India has a wide range of validated
NGOs that work across diverse areas: children's issues, education, health care, livelihoods, helping the aged, animal welfare and the environment.
CAF has been one of the pioneers in addressing the credibility factors besetting the voluntary sector. In conjunction with the Planning Commission of India, CAF India initiated a validation programme in 2000, with the aim of enhancing standards of accountability in voluntary organisations. Its immediate result was a validated CAF India database consisting of over 1,300 NGOs; it also set in motion processes for exploring more evolved mechanisms to ensure credibility and accountability of non-profit organisations.
Last year, we supported over 100 NGOs across 14 states in India. The NGOs we support go through a process of due diligence and validation and CAF India ensures the NGOs we recommend to our donors comply with all fiscal, legal and regulatory norms in-country. Building resources and the capacity of the not-for-profit sector in India is also core to our work in the country. Our work covers a broad spectrum of support from training and grantmaking to finance and donations management.
